Aakash Nihalani sent me a preview of the new works for Overlap, his upcoming solo exhibition at Bose Pacia in New York. I really like the look of them so I thought I’d share a few. He’s been working hard on the show all year. It opens on November 4 and runs through December 18, 2010.
I’d love to see this show in person and highly recommend it to anyone living in or visiting New York over the next six weeks. Although I’m not much of a Jeff Koons fan, my favorite piece is his reinterpretation of the famous Balloon Dog. I also really like his new series of abstract aluminum works. I know from experience that bringing these pieces from concept to creation is anything but easy and I think it’s fantastic that he is continuing to develop his relationship with the medium. I can’t wait to see how far he’s taken it a few years from now.
If you’re planning to go to the opening, the address is 163 Plymouth St, Brooklyn. The after party features a performance by Das Rascist (Aakash has done some pretty cool designs for them in the past) and takes place at 17 Frost.
