Transparent Studio: Ruby Chishti
6 March - 5 May 2012
Open Studio: Thursday, 3 May, 6 – 9 pm
ARTIST TALK: 6 - 7PM

Please join us for an Open Studio event with Ruby Chishti at Bose Pacia.

As Bose Pacia's 3rd artist-in-residence at the Transparent Studio program, Ruby Chishti has poetically transformed the gallery space into her own studio. Using various materials such as exhibition postcards, gold-colored faucets, hay, and recycled fabric from Pakistan, she has created large-scale installations and inquisitive charcoal drawings.

In April, Ruby exhibited several works in progress that questioned the function of clothing beyond social status or sexual difference. During her final month, these projects have evolved into intricate structures and evocative creatures. Ruby continues to investigate humanistic subtleties through her work, as will be evident on Thursday evening when you will be able to view the work and meet the artist.

Ruby Chishti’s sculpture-based art practice has spanned over twelve years. She graduated from the National College of Arts in Lahore. Her work has been exhibited in numerous national and international galleries and venues including Walsh Gallery, Chicago, Center of Contemporary Art, Sacramento, Aicon Gallery, London, Rohtas II, Lahore, Vadehra Gallery, New Delhi and Harris Museum, Preston. Chishti's lyrical sculptures and installations touch on universal themes of identity, love, loss, of being human and social isolation as well as questioning the role of authority and gender politics. Her work has garnered huge critical acclaim and public attention. Ruby Chishti was born and raised in Pakistan. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11 to 6 pm and Saturday 12 to 6, by appointment only. There will be an open studio evening with the artist on May 3 from 6 to 9 pm. The artist will be in attendance and the public is invited.

Transparent Studio at Bose Pacia, NY:
Launched in January 2012, Transparent Studio is an artist residency program founded by Bose Pacia. Emerging and mid career artists are chosen for the studio program through a submissions process based on project proposal and artistic merit. Residents are provided with a studio in the main gallery space for 1-3 month period. By turning the transitional gallery space into temporary artist studios on the street-level in an active arts neighborhood, we are hoping to allow for an atmosphere of engagement and conversation around the creative process. During the residency, the public is invited to interact with the artist during their creative process allowing exchange and collaborative relationships.
